I've been feeling a bit down the last week or two, and have been slipping into the swamp of insecurity and scarcity. Lesley Sim's newsletter today was a nice reminder that it doesn't have to be a lonely, dark affair, and that community is one of the key ways we can take care of ourselves.
Oh, and if you're into both newsletters/WordPress, definitely check out her awesome plugin!

How to become well known in a crowded market.

Howdy folks.
I'm a filmmaker in Tempe, Arizona. As a child, I was given stirrups, a cowboy hat, and a cap-gun revolver (with holster). So yes, I think that qualifies me as a proper pioneer/cowboy.
In all seriousness, I have been filmmaking for 7 years (commercial and creative), educating other filmmakers for about 2.5 years, and this past year I started making adventure films and exploring concepts revolving around the 'pioneer' mindset, and adventure/outdoor lifestyle.
Right now, I'm publishing content while trying to narrow down exactly what my long-term goals are for my Art of Survival site.
I want to make my two sites do well enough to largely support me so I can be free to live where I like and control my schedule more.
My favorite snack food is a secret. But if you ask nicely, maybe I'll tell you.

Finding quality information online is difficult. Finding comprehensive information is hard. Finding both in one place, optimized for easy understanding and application is nearly impossible.
Which is why I was so excited to discover Julian Shapiro's free internet guides to:
Writing well
Growing a startup
Building muscle
Each of these is a masterwork of scientifically verified, easy-to-understand information. This guy is a master writer and researcher. (Julian.com)
If Julian ever writes about another subject I'm interested in, his web site will be my starting point for exploring the topic. Â
I've read a lot about writing and a lot about building muscle, and none of what he says conflicts with what I've learned. In fact, he refutes a lot of common myths, including some I already knew about and some I didn't.
Even if you are a brilliant writer with years of experience I'll bet you'll find something in his writing guide to improve your writing.
Here's what I want to know: Do you know of any other websites like his? Where someone spends 1000s of hours to create a comprehensive, thoroughly researched and masterfully optimized guide on a subject?
There should be a directory of sites like these. It would be priceless.
Do you have any other nominations for such a directory?
